Premier Destination for Trophy Peacock Bass
Rio Marié offers the ultimate Amazon experience for anglers in search of giant Peacock Bass. Operated in partnership with the Brazilian government and Indigenous communities, the program combines conservation, scientific research, and world-class fly fishing.
Guests stay aboard a fully equipped, air-conditioned shallow-draft vessel providing unmatched comfort in the Amazon.
The World’s Largest Peacock Bass Sanctuary
With over 500 miles of exclusive, catch-and-release waters, Rio Marié is Brazil’s only fishery of its kind. Located in a fully protected Indigenous territory, the river system supports a thriving population of trophy-sized peacock bass in pristine, untouched habitat.
Why Rio Marié Stands Apart
Widely considered the world’s top trophy Peacock Bass fishery, Rio Marié has delivered exceptional results since opening in 2014. Nearly half of all guests have landed fish over 20 pounds—including several world records and the largest peacock bass ever caught on a fly rod: a 28.5 lb, 89 cm giant.
What truly sets Rio Marié apart is its consistency and exclusive access. It produces more 20+ pound fish than the next five top Amazon fisheries combined.
Fishing Season
The season runs from late August through early February, coinciding with the dry season in the upper Rio Negro Basin. Stable water levels during this time provide access to the full river system, including tributaries and lagoons. Unlike many Amazon rivers, Rio Marié offers more consistent and predictable fishing conditions due to its vast drainage area and geography.
Beyond Trophies
While giant peacock bass are the highlight, the river also holds plentiful butterfly peacocks (2–8 lbs), known for their aggressive strikes and fast action. Anglers can also target Black Arowana, Traira and Striped Surubi,
Anglers stay aboard the Untamed Amazon, a fully furnished, air-conditioned shallow draft yacht built in 2015 specifically for the Rio Marié project. The yacht offers spacious double-occupancy suites with private bathrooms, two beds per room, ample storage, and modern comforts. The main dining room features panoramic windows, a full bar, and comfortable seating, while a separate open-air lounge includes hot tubs with jungle views providing a level of luxury rarely found in the Amazon.
Dining Experience
Breakfast and dinner are served in the dining room, with breakfast starting at 7:00 AM, featuring made-to-order eggs, buffet items, and beverages. Lunch is flexible, anglers can dine onboard or pack lunches for riverside picnics from a buffet of cold dishes. A weekly special shore lunch features freshly caught fish cooked over an open fire. Evenings include appetizers and cocktails before dinner, which showcases traditional Argentine cuisine paired with fine wines.

As the Amazon’s first deluxe, eco-friendly fishing vessel, the Untamed Amazon blends solar power with cutting-edge design, setting new standards in comfort and sustainability. The yacht has eight spacious suites accommodating 16 guests, each with private bathrooms, hot water showers, air conditioning, and ample storage.

Getting to Rio Marié
Fly into Manaus (MAO), Brazil. Upon arrival, you’ll be met by a Rio Marié representative and transferred to the Caesar Business Hotel for an overnight stay (included in the package). The next morning, board a 3-hour charter flight on an amphibious Cessna Caravan directly to the Untamed Amazon mothership. Return flights to Manaus typically arrive in the afternoon, allowing for same-day international departures or an optional overnight stay.
Arrival & Departure Notes
Since the itinerary includes a hotel night in Manaus before your trip begins, you may arrive at any time the day prior. Return flights usually depart late at night, making same-day connections possible.
Travel Tips
Nonstop flights to Manaus are available from Fort Lauderdale, Panama City, Lisbon, Bogotá, Rio de Janeiro, and São Paulo. We recommend arriving in Brazil a day early to allow time for domestic transfers.
Charter Flights
Guests travel via private Cessna Caravans with amphibious floats directly to the mothership over 500 miles from Manaus. The 3+ hour flight avoids boat or wheel-plane transfers and lands directly at the heart of the fishery. Each aircraft accommodates up to 8 guests, with a brief refueling stop in Tefé on the return.
This mobile fishing model allows access to over 680 km (425 miles) of fishable water within the Rio Marié Reserve, rotating between five exclusive sectors to protect and optimize the fishery.
Efficient Access
The combination of float planes and the shallow-draft mothership ensures access to remote and highly productive areas, some previously unexplored and now included in the itinerary.
Health & Insurance
A yellow fever certificate is recommended for travel to Indigenous Territories in Brazil but is no longer mandatory. We strongly advise securing travel and medical insurance, including cancel-for-any-reason coverage.
Baggage Guidelines
Air transfers use small aircraft with strict weight limits: 40 lbs per person total (30 lbs checked + 10 lbs carry-on). Use soft duffels without rigid frames, no hard luggage allowed. Excess items may be stored at the Manaus hotel. Daily laundry is available onboard, so pack light.
