Fly Fishing in Magdalena Bay
Los Locos offers a rare, strictly sight-casting experience for Striped Marlin, no trolling, chumming, or big sport boats involved. Backed by a team of expert Mexican guides and international fly fishing professionals, this operation is a standout in one of the world’s richest striped marlin fisheries.
Based in the quiet fishing village of Puerto San Carlos, Magdalena Bay spans 31 miles and is shielded from the Pacific Ocean by a chain of barrier islands. This protection creates a rich, diverse marine environment ideal for both fishing and wildlife.
Los Locos began in 2016 as an adventure among friends who trailered a small skiff to Baja in search of fish and surf. After months of exploration and firsthand experience, they zeroed in on Magdalena Bay as a hidden gem. Over time, they built a unique program rooted in deep local connections and hands-on fishery knowledge.
Today, the Los Locos team offers a dynamic and conservation-minded program tailored to both seasoned anglers and adventurous newcomers. With personalized itineraries, skilled guides, and a strong relationship with the local community, Los Locos delivers a one-of-a-kind experience in one of Mexico’s most productive and awe-inspiring marine settings.
Los Locos offers a one-of-a-kind, sight-casting fly fishing experience in Magdalena Bay, with a focus on Striped Marlin, Roosterfish, Dorado, Tuna, and more. Each boat is crewed by a local captain and an experienced American guide, giving anglers expert support in both offshore and inshore settings.
The program covers diverse habitats from open ocean to mangroves offering opportunities to target a wide range of species. Peak marlin season runs October to January, while spring and summer bring prime conditions for Roosterfish and other inshore targets.
Guests enjoy five full days of guided fishing and six nights of waterfront accommodation. Daily departures include scenic rides across the bay with whale sightings and incredible coastal views—making the journey as memorable as the fishing itself.
Los Locos guests stay at Villas Mar y Arena, a cozy beachfront eco-hotel in San Carlos, Baja California Sur, offering direct access to Magdalena Bay. The property features two palapa-style villas with panoramic water views, each equipped with two beds, hot water, Wi-Fi, TV, and air conditioning.
Guests enjoy daily housekeeping, full meal service (excluding alcohol), and access to an on-site bar and outdoor waterfront patio – perfect for relaxing after a day on the water. Meals include:
– Breakfast – Traditional Mexican and American options
– Lunch – Burritos or sandwiches with snacks, fruit, soda, and water
– Dinner – Local seafood, meats, and vegetables, often served at handpicked restaurants in town
The setting is informal and welcoming, with a focus on comfort, friendly service, and the shared experience of adventure fishing.
