Golden Dorado in the Heart of the Wetland
Tucked deep in Northern Argentina’s vast Iberá Marshland one of the largest wetlands on Earth Pirá Lodge offers anglers direct access to a rich, untouched ecosystem. The marsh spans an area twice the size of the Florida Everglades and is home to over 350 bird species, along with caiman, capybara, and marsh deer.
The clear waters of the Iberá -creeks, lagoons, and rivers, make this a premier destination for sight-fishing Golden Dorado. These aggressive, acrobatic fish are known for explosive takes and thrilling fights, and anglers explore everything from shallow marsh headwaters to the Corrientes River alongside expert bilingual guides.
Off the water, Pirá Lodge blends rustic elegance with world-class comfort. Guests enjoy exceptional hospitality, fine dining, and a serene country setting that perfectly complements the wild beauty of the fishing experience.
The Iberá Marshlands offer expansive waters rich with Golden Dorado, powerful, aggressive fish known for explosive strikes. Anglers explore creeks, lagoons, and channels from Hell’s Bay skiffs, guided through productive areas by experienced polesmen. Fishing demands accurate casting, steady stripping, and long days under the sun.
A 7- or 8-weight rod with tropical floating and sinking lines is ideal. Casts should target grassy banks, structure, and current seams, whether sight-fishing or prospecting. Depending on conditions, flies may need either a subtle or splashy presentation. Your guide will advise. In windy weather, stealth is less important.
Retrieves are typically fast and erratic, with speed adjusted to fish behavior. Gloves or finger guards are recommended to handle the dorado’s sudden, jarring strikes.
Located in northern Argentina’s Ibera Marshlands, Pirá Lodge offers exceptional access to some of the world’s best Golden Dorado fishing. The region’s clear waters, expansive creeks, lagoons, and channels provide ideal conditions for sight fishing.

Getting to Pirá Lodge
Travelers typically arrive in Argentina via Ministro Pistarini International Airport (EZE) in Buenos Aires. From there, transfer across town (approx. 40 minutes) to Jorge Newbery Domestic Airport (AEP) for a connecting flight to either Corrientes (CNQ) or Resistencia (RES) a one-hour flight. Upon arrival, a Pirá Lodge representative will meet you for a ground transfer (4–4.5 hours) to the lodge.
Other travel options include private charter flights from Buenos Aires’ San Fernando Airport directly to Pirá Lodge’s 5,000-foot grass airstrip (approx. 2 hours; $6,000 per leg for up to 8 passengers). If the strip is unusable due to weather, flights can instead land in Mercedes, followed by a 1.15-hour transfer.
For budget-conscious travelers, an overnight first-class sleeper bus departs Buenos Aires at 9 p.m. and arrives in Mercedes by 6:30 a.m. From there, lodge staff will provide a 1.15-hour transfer to Pirá. A day-use hotel room in Buenos Aires is recommended before departure, with hotel-to-terminal transfers available upon request.
We suggest booking a morning arrival into Corrientes and scheduling your return flight from Buenos Aires in the afternoon to allow for all ground transfers.
No visa is required for citizens of the U.S., Canada, UK, Australia, New Zealand, and most Western European countries for stays up to 90 days. A valid passport and customs declaration are required. Be sure to declare high-value electronics like laptops to avoid issues on departure.
