Heli Fishing at Tsimane’

Introduction

The new Lodge Heli Fishing Program opens the door to Bolivia’s most remote, untouched waters for Golden Dorado, Pacú, and Yatorana. With single occupancy lodging at Pluma Lodge, guests fly daily by helicopter just 5–10 minutes to pristine jungle rivers rarely seen by humans.

Designed for exploration and exclusivity, this program offers unforgettable fishing and wildlife encounters in truly wild terrain. Limited to just four anglers per week, it’s a one-of-a-kind experience chasing unpressured, resident fish that have never seen a fly.

Fishing

The new Heli-fishing program unlocks Bolivia’s most remote, pristine waters across the Pluma and Secure rivers. Each morning, anglers soar 5–15 minutes by helicopter to untouched fishing spots. If weather grounds the chopper, guests explore local waters by wading and dugout canoe. This approach protects home waters, keeping them wild and abundant.

The Golden Dorado here are fierce predators, but not easy prey. Stealth and surprise are key as these fish spook easily, so every cast must be strategic and precise. Working closely with your guide is essential to capitalize on each chance. Quick, accurate double-haul casting and a delicate presentation with larger flies give you the edge.

The Pluma River offers clear freestone waters and broad, smooth banks ideal for wading. Motor use is restricted to protect its pristine nature, except near its confluence with the Secure River.

The Secure River carves through lush jungle and jagged mountains, with tributaries like the rugged Itirizama, often called Tsimane’s “jewel.” Here, expect fast runs, rapids, waterfalls, and trophy-sized Dorado. The Itirizama demands stamina but rewards with breathtaking scenery and some of the largest fish around.

Fishing season runs dry from May through October, coinciding with the epic migration of millions of Sabalo and Dorado headed to spawn. Besides Dorado, you’ll find big Pacú, Yatorana, occasional striped Surubi, and rare Amazonian dorado.

We fish small groups on rotated beats to reduce pressure, ensuring a wild, sustainable experience. Expect to wet wade most days through varied riverbeds from sandy shores to volcanic rock and boulder fields. Wading is safe but frequent; we recommend light training before arrival.

Tsimane enforces strict catch-and-release with barbless hooks to protect fish and anglers alike. These powerful fish have razor-sharp teeth so handle with care and patience to ensure their swift recovery.
